Employment Project Manager

Project Manager

Core Competencies

  • Conversant with survey research projects through significant work experience in a commercial or academic survey research organization (this implies hands on organizational experience, a student project generally does not provide the requisite level of relevant experience). As a result, the candidate will understand survey research conventions, methods, and procedures.
  • Significant course work at the graduate level in the social sciences (but rarely in a business school) may partially compensate for this work experience. To be relevant such course work should go beyond standard single required "methods" courses (e.g., specialized courses in survey research, questionnaire design, a year-long practicum, etc.)

  • Prior experience as a survey research interview supervisor preferred. Absent that, significant experience as a survey research interviewer.

  • Can write questionnaires with moderate direction. Can follow standard conventions consistently.

  • Supervise pretest and revise questionnaires based on pretest.
  • High computer literacy (beyond rudimentary Word/Excel ). Ideally skill level at least at the level described for Computer Research Associates.

  • At a minimum basic CATI functioning and the ability to manipulate WinCATI/CI3, export data to SPSS and undertake basic SPSS manipulations and recodes.

  • Manage all survey DP processes including those related to design, field, tabulation, and reporting as well as mass Winfax and mass email operations.

Generally the requirements of this position assume full time employment, although an exceptionally well-organized person may be able to perform these functions at 25+ hours a week if accompanied by a commitment to see critical processes through. Candidates interested in this track but lacking the specific experience required will generally progress through interviewer to supervisor positions to acquire the relevant competencies.
